Hand Hewn Beam

Hand Hewn Beam

Hand Hewn Beams were fallen logs, shaped into usable dimensions by carpenters using an axe called an ‘adze’.  Before more sophisticated tools were common, this method of shaping beams was the only way for carpenters to achieve the beam sizes needed.

Hand Hewn style beams are commonly used as a rustic accents either as ceiling beams or fireplace mantels.  During the sanding process, our team expertly softens the hand hewn markings to main the character but reduce the chance to splintering.
